Who are we?
The Tacoma Faith Labor Coalition (FLC) is a growing partnership between unions, congregations and other civic organizations committed to social and economic justice, equity and inclusion. We share the values of racial and gender justice, the freedom to form unions, equal education, housing, safety and political accountability.
Where are we going?
Toward a more just, equitable and ethical Tacoma. Oftentimes cities have a number of good willed and active civic organizations, but they lack connectivity to collaboratively amplify their message and capacity. FLC looks to build bridges between existing organizations so that our shared skills and abilities exponentially increase our ability to form a better Tacoma.
How do we get there?
By uncovering our common interests and combining our talents and resources. FLC
multiplies the power of our partners through educating and civically engaging our individual memberships and the public, strategizing for systemic, lasting change, and identifying and developing the leaders of tomorrow.
Our preliminary list of concerns includes the following:
● Poverty
● Immigration
● Political accountability
● Housing
● Workers’ rights
● Race and gender discrimination
● Education
● Childcare
● Police reform
"The labor movement was the principal force that transformed misery and despair into hope and progress. Out of its bold struggles, economic and social reform gave birth to unemployment insurance, old age pensions, government relief for the destitute, and, above all, new wage levels that meant not mere survival but a tolerable life." Martin Luther King Jr.
